If you think Crypto Punks is the end all be all of NFTs, you would be sorely mistaken. 2021 is the year of NFT trading with new collections being released constantly, but how do you know which one is worth buying and which one will fall flat? There’s numerous ways that an NFT can hold value:

  1. Is it part of a collection? Collection items are particularly valuable because others will be on the lookout for collecting as many pieces as they can.
  2. Is it original? Is the idea fresh, new and special in any way? For instance, Crypto Punks hold value because of their originality and customizability. There’s no end to Crypto Punks and new ones are always being added.
  3. Do certain pieces of the collection hold higher value than others aesthetically? A good example of this is the purple hat Crypto Punks which are particularly more expensive because of Gary Vaynerchuk’s shout out which caused an immediate surge in their popularity.

There are plenty of other reasons for a collection to hold value but these are some of the major reasons why. I’ve been doing a lot of OpenSea research lately on new and upcoming collections and I’ve got to say that one has stood out to me among the rest. Before I get to that, I want to mention that OpenSea is probably one of the most reliable buying sources for NFTs because of their gas price submission fee. A market with a submission fee means that the lister had to buy in in order to post their piece, giving the piece inherent value.

So you can’t afford to buy Crypto Punks because of their outrageous pay wall, then you might want to look into new and upcoming collections that will be growing in value. Getting on top of a collection before it spikes is the best way to 15x, even 30x your investment. A brand new collection was released called “Crypto Candy” which I will be keeping a close eye on in the coming days as it’s a new released collection that hits all the marks on what makes a good NFT. You can take a look at the collection here: https://opensea.io/collection/crypto-candy It might be smart to get in now before it’s too late. I will surely be looking into getting the candy cane myself.
